Dense, low-mounted evergreen shrub noted for its dark green, glossy, rectangular leaves that feature 5-7 sharp spines. The small white flowers attracts pollinators. Extreme heat/drought tolerance, and high-security, impenetrable barrier to deer and humans. Perfect selection for security barriers, low hedging, foundation, and mass planting. Special Features	Very sharp spines provide effective security barrier. Small white flowers in Spring attracts pollinators. Deer, drought, heat, humidity resistant. Low maintenance. It is considered a shy-bearer of fruit.

Sun	Full Sun – Part Shade. Morning Sun with afternoon Shade. It thrives in Full Sun (6+ hours).
Height	3-4Ft.
Width	6-8Ft.
Planting-General	Dig hole the size of the root ball deep and 2-3 times wide as the root ball. Likes loam, sand, clay soil that are not wet or compacted. Well drained soil. Soil pH range 4.5 to 6.5, pH range from acidic to neutral. Mulch to prevent soil from drying out or getting too hot. Mulch about 2 to 3 inches deep at all times.
Planting-Spacing	Plant 3-4Ft. apart for tight solid hedge/screen, center to center. Or 5-7Ft. apart for full mature spread between shrubs, center to center.
Watering	Average once established. Regular watering schedule during first growing season to establish deep roots. More often in extreme heat or containers. Its roots do not like wet soil. Can add Root Stimulation which helps early root development and strengths roots, as well as, reduces plant shock.
Fertilizing	Feed with slow release shrub and tree fertilizer in early Spring.
Pruning	Low. Prune in late Winter. Always use clean shears to avoid possibly spreading diseases.
Deer	Deer avoid the sharp spins on the leaves. Deer do not favor their taste. If in a high deer area, spray every 3 to 6 months with deer repellent.
Flowers	Small, fragrant, inconspicuous white flowers in Spring.
