Very popular for its long bloom season among the Camellia sasanqua varieties. Beautiful bright red with bright golden yellow stamens single petaled flowers bloom from mid fall through early winter are 2.5-3.0" wide, and extremely showy during the winter months while others have long past faded. A sight for your family to enjoy over the entire Christmas season. Its upright form with glossy dark green leaves gives it great contrast to the striking display of flowers. Camellia's have long been a part of the southeastern United States, and a southern landscape tradition. Grow rate is about 1-2Ft. per year. | Planting-General | Dig hole 2-3 times wide and 2-3 times deep as the root ball. Likes loam, and silt. Clay or sand provided they are amended. Likes moist but well drained soil. Soil pH range is 5.0-6.5, thus acidic soil. Fine to add some 1-2” of mulch, or 3-4” pine straw to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. |
| Planting-Spacing | Plant 4-5Ft. apart for tight solid hedge or screen, center to center. 10Ft. or more apart between shrubs, center to center for more space. |
| Watering | Average, low once established. Regular watering schedule during first growing season to establish deep roots. More often in extreme heat, or containers. Its roots do not like wet soil. Can add Root Stimulation which helps early root development and strengths roots, as well as, reduces plant shock. |
| Fertilizing | Feed with acid fertilizer in the Spring, after flowers fade. Keep roots cool with a layer of mulch to retain moisture during heat of Summer and colder months of Winter. |
| Pruning | Not required. May prune after flowering in the late Winter, or early Spring. Do not over prune. Always use clean shears to avoid possibly spreading diseases. |
| Deer | Deer do not favor their taste. If in a high deer area, spray every 3 to 6 months with deer repellent. |
